BALACLAVA [EPISODE 1]

So, This year I worked on a comic for Comic Con Cape Town 2026. I wanted to create a series with a character that is unusual. So my disdain for thievery and robbery piqued when I decided to focus my comic book series on a thief and BALACLAVA was created.

Set in a vibrant, stylized Cape Town, Balaclava is an urban fantasy series that follows a protagonist who made the mistake of stealing from the wrong person- the powerful entity known as Satahn. Now, he’s trapped in a magical "debt-collector" contract with the mysterious Council of the Dark Sun. Our hero is "Balaclava," a former small-time tsotsi (thief) who now possesses the eerie ability to "shwoop" through solid brick and mortar. But he isn't stealing anymore; he’s doing the opposite. Under the watchful eyes of the Council and a magic wielding tokoloshe named Vovo, Balaclava is forced to act as a cosmic delivery boy, returning stolen heirlooms to their original owners to settle his debt. As Episode 1 begins, Balaclava is on the home stretch- 991 deliveries down, only 9 to go. But the city is a minefield. He is hunted by “Goddogs”- vicious, giant insatiable hounds and targeted by rivals like the no-nonsense brawler Brenda Bad and the Cape Claw. The Council's representative, Nomantsu, suspects Balaclava’s grown to love the power and the "nightrider" lifestyle. As he faces a final delivery that could change everything, Satahn begins her journey to Cape Town, and Balaclava must decide if he wants his old, desperate life back, or if he’s ready to become the legend the Council needs.

I drew, inked, coloured, designed, edited everything on this comic because I just wanted to get it done my way-for me. I’ll be working on episodes 2-4 This year and will complete all 7 in the volume for Comic Con Cape Town 2027.
